There are a large number of heart conditions that can be hereditary (i.e. passed on from parents to children). Conditions like coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy (abnormalities of the heart muscle), congenital heart disease (such as a ‘hole-in-the-heart) and even raised blood pressure all have the potential to be passed down the generations due to genetic abnormalities. If there is a family history of heart problems then the long wait for an NHS appointment to see a cardiologist can cause a great deal of anxiety. Rather than anxiously waiting weeks (or even months) for an NHS appointment why not see a cardiologist privately and have a complete assessment of your heart within a week?
Dr. Hamaad is able to offer a number of different assessments tailored towards detecting a wide array of heart problems. This is called ‘The Healthy Heart Check’ and provides a complete solution to detecting a number of heart conditions early. The initial consultation and ECG is available at one of two private hospitals (Spire Little Aston Hospital and The Priory Hospital) and will aim to look at your family history in detail and go through any symptoms you might have (such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations or dizziness). Following this private consultation a determination will be made as to what further tests are required. Most patients will have a transthoracic echocardiogram, which is an ultrasound scan of the heart. This is a very useful test to examine the function of the heart as well as the movement and function of the heart valves. It is useful to detect conditions such as heart failure and cardiomyopathy. It can also detect if you have had any previous heart attack or damage to the heart muscle.
Further testing may then be required depending on the particular family history. If there is a family history of high blood pressure the 24-hour blood pressure assessment will be very useful in determining whether high blood pressure is present. If there is a family history of heart attacks or angina then an exercise ECG (also called an exercise stress test) may be useful. If the concern is about heart rhythm problems then portable ECG monitoring may be required.
Whatever tests are required patients can be assured of having them done quickly and the results available either immediately or within a few days. Because a number of tests are often required the combined price of these tests is reduced. A complete report will be compiled and the results sent to your GP as well as a personal copy for the patient. The report will be clear to understand with a clear explanation of the assessment and test results. Having such a report available is invaluable when applying for insurance, a mortgage or travel insurance. Knowing that your heart is normal means insurance companies and banks will be reassured about your heart and able to provide you with the insurance or mortgage without the need for further tests or a higher premium.
If any of the tests are abnormal then a complete treatment plan will be made available at no additional cost.
If you have any queries about the Healthy Heart Check, or wish to make an appointment then please complete the booking form and you will receive a reply within 24 hours. So do not hesitate and get your heart checked out today.
