Cardiologist Fees - Birmingham Cardiology

Private cardiology fees and payments

Dr. Hamaad is a fee assured consultant cardiologist, which means he is approved by all the main health insurance companies (BUPA, AXA PPP, Aviva, Vitality Health, Cigna, Simply Health, WPA). The fee structure for consultations, tests and treatment are therefore usually covered by the insurance company although there may be some shortfall due to insurance excess charges. It is important to check with your individual insurance policy to see what is covered.

If you are not insured (self-funding patients) Dr. Hamaad’s fees are:

  • Initial consultation £200
  • ECG (usually required with an initial consultation) £75
  • Total initial fee £275

If a patient has a recent ECG (within the last 2 weeks) then only a consultation fee is required. The ECG must be of good quality so it can be interpreted. A poor quality ECG cannot provide sufficient information and will need to be repeated.

Initial consultations are scheduled for 30 minutes but patients will have as much time as they need to discuss their symptoms. A consultation will involve a review of your symptoms, a clinical examination, and a 12 lead ECG. Further diagnostic tests may then be recommended along with a course of treatment if required.

FOR PATIENTS WHO ARE SELF FUNDING A GP REFERRAL LETTER IS NOT REQUIRED BUT MAY BE HELPFUL IN PROVIDING AN UP-TO-DATE MEDICAL HISTORY.

Cardiologist Consultation
Follow-up Consultation

A follow-up consultation is often required to go through various test results with patients, to review new symptoms or to review the progress of a treatment plan. Follow-up consultations are usually for 15-minute intervals but can be longer if required.

Follow-up consultation £120

Diagnostic cardiology test fees

Further diagnostic tests may be required. For insured patients, the fees for these tests are usually covered by the insurance policy. For non-insured self-funding patients Dr. Hamaad can provide all of the usual cardiology tests at a fraction of the price that one would expect to pay at a private hospital.

It is important to note that for all heart tests a consultation is usually required ie heart tests cannot be undertaken without a consultation to ensure the correct investigation is being performed to get to a diagnosis.

Echocardiogram
Echocardiogram

An ultrasound examination of the heart to examine the heart and valve function. This test usually takes 30 minutes and the results are available immediately after the test. A typed report of the echocardiogram findings is available within a few days of having this test. A female sonographer is available to perform scans if requested.

Test Fee: £300

Echocardiogram ECG
14 day ECG monitoring

For patients with less frequent symptoms, it is now possible to monitor an ECG continuously for 14 days using a small patch monitor that is stuck to the chest wall. There are no additional wires and patients can shower normally with the patch monitor still attached. Once the 14 day period of monitoring is completed the patch monitor is posted to our partner centre for analysis.

Test fee: £650

Cancellation

Payment for the consultation fee is taken in advance of any appointment. Please be advised we cannot book any appointments without pre-payment of the consultation fee in full. If an appointment needs to be cancelled we would require a minimum of 72 hours notice. Any cancellation with less than 72 hours notice or a non-attendance will mean your consultation fee cannot be refunded.

ECG Test
Exercise ECG

This is also called an exercise stress ECG test and is used to assess for exercise capacity and to determine if there is any narrowing affecting the heart arteries. This heart test involves walking on a treadmill with a gradually increasing incline while closely monitoring your ECG, blood pressure, and symptoms. It can provide a lot of useful information about your heart.

Test Fee: £280

Heart Murmur
CT coronary angiogram

The CT coronary angiogram is one of the available investigations for patients with chest pain. It is a CT scan of the heart and specifically the heart arteries. The test is able to determine if a patient’s chest pain is due to narrowing of the heart arteries. The CT scan is able to image the heart arteries and also provide a measurement called a ‘calcium score’ that is an indication of the amount of narrowing of the heart arteries. The test can also provide information on the other structures within the chest wall such as the lungs or spine. It is important to note that the CT coronary angiogram involves radiation and this test may not be suitable for all patients.

Calcium score test circa £800
CT coronary angiogram plus calcium score circa £1300-1500

Echocardiogram ECG
Ambulatory (portable) ECG

This is a continuous ECG monitor of your heart and involves attaching sticky electrode patches to your chest and abdomen with wires that connect to a small monitor the size of a small mobile phone. This allows a continuous recording of your ECG. This is a useful test to detect heart rhythm problems if you are suffering from palpitations, skipping heart beat or a funny sensation in your chest.

Depending on how frequent your symptoms occur you might need 24 hour, 48 hour, 72 hour or 5 day continuous ECG monitoring.

24 hour ECG £210
48 hour ECG £240
7 day ECG £420

Why see a specialist privately?

You may already have been referred to see a specialist at your local NHS hospital. However, you may be waiting several weeks for your appointment and that is several weeks of worry that can be avoided by seeking a private consultation. A private appointment can be made within a few days and you can avoid weeks of unnecessary waiting. You can also pick a day and time for your appointment that suits you without having to take a day off work.

Another advantage of seeing a specialist privately is that you get to see the consultant you want to and not a trainee or junior doctor.
